Terry Pratchet Author of the renowned Discworld novels. If you've never read any of his books (wot u been doin'?) then I recommend starting with "Colour of Magic", and then "The Light Fantastic" (sequel to CofM). Another book I liked that he wrote in conjunction with Neil Gaimen is "Good Omens".

Iain M. Banks Writes science fiction and fiction, and to tell which book falls into these categories, he includes the M. for his sci-fi books, and leaves it out for the fiction. His fiction books include the superb "Espedair Street" and "The Wasp Factory", which I would recommend to everyone. And again for his Sci-fi novels "Consider Phleabas" and "The Player of Games".

Michael Marshal Smith "Only Forwards" and "Spares" are the only books that I know of that he's written so far. Both are set in the future, where things have gone a bit mad on Earth. Both of these books are funny, witty, shocking, gruesome…..quite a mixture, but worth a read.

Neal Stephenson Author of "Snow Crash", voted to be the best cyberpunk novel since William Gibson's novels. Other novels include "Diamond Age".

David Eddings A fantasy writer, and has quite a few sets of books (most of which span 5 books), my favourite being the "Elenium" series.

Raymond E. Feist "Magician" is probably his best known book, and there are two later books that continue the story. And there's another series that is set to run alongside the Magician set, and blends in superbly with it (in the 1st series they encounter another race from another world; the 2nd series is set with that other race at the same time).
